Oregon Man Flies in His Lawn Chair 193 Miles From Oregon to Idaho

July 10, 2007 on 8:00 pm | In News | 2 Comments

Last Saturday, at 6:06 AM, 47 year old Kent Couch attached 105 helium balloons to his lawn chair, equipped himself with some snacks, a parachute, instruments to measure his altitude and speed, a G.P.S. system in his pocket, and about four plastic bags holding five gallons of water each to act as ballast as he headed at 25 MPH on his 9 hour ride to Idaho almost 200 miles away.  And this was his second such trip!

He landed safely, but suffered rope burns and lost his chair, video recorder and remaining balloons to the wind.  His wife, Susan, is thinking about joining him for a third trip someday.
