Evidence of Meteorite Impact Found
July 15, 2007 on 11:02 pm | In Geology | No CommentsAfter a forest fire prevented geologists from visiting the Gunflint Trail in northeastern Minnesota, they decided to visit another spot, more than 450 miles away, in Sudbury, Ontario. What they found took them by surprise: evidence of a meteor impact, a crater more than 150 miles across, with fairly dark rock and dust scattered over nearly a million square miles. The area had previously not been explored, and is now exciting scientists who hope to study it.
